At the Good Life Retreat, environmental sustainability is not just a ‘thing we do’, it is a core part of our holistic ethos. Our 5 Star Qualmark Award proves we are commited to protecting our natural environment, enhancing connections with our local communities, whilst also delivering a quality, safe experience for all visitors.
Everything from our modern building design to the landscaping boasts environmentally friendly features including rainwater collection, animal waste reuse, native planting and restoration, chemical free gardens and so much more. We make energy efficiencies at every opportunity and are dedicated to reducing our footprint and minimising our impact on the environment – because it is fundamental to the vitality of our sanctuary. It brings us immense pride to be able to offer our guests an eco-friendly retreat, that is fueled by the very thing it protects – nature.
Rainwater and water discharge is collected and filtered and reused to water the retreat grounds.
Here at The Good Life Retreat we maintain an active beehive and offer honey to guests.
In true rural NZ style, farm chicken waste is reused in the retreat gardens.
All recycling is sorted and bundled according to council guidelines onsite.
We are moving towards enjoying a plastic free environment here at The Retreat
Composting is available onsite, and guests are encouraged to use the compost bin for organic waste disposal.
Sensor outdoor lights have bene installed and a mix of gas and electricity is used at the retreat
Eco-friendly sprays are used to keep pests away.
We have preserved and enhanced original native planting and waterways, avoiding using chemical sprays.
